Davor  Harasic Yaksic

Davor Harasic Yaksic holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Social Sciences from the School of Law of the University of Chile (1972), and a Master’s Degree in Law, with a major in Criminal Law, from the same university (1984).

He is a partner of HARASIC / BARROS, where he practices as a litigation lawyer in civil, criminal, constitutional and administrative litigation matters.

Due to his experience in highly complex litigation, he has been recognized on numerous occasions by international rankings (Chambers & Partners, Leading Lawyers).

He was Dean of the Law School of Universidad de Chile (2015 – June 2018) and a Tenured Professor of Procedural Law at the same School (until August 2018).

He taught undergraduate courses in the areas of civil and criminal procedural law at both the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (1986-1989) and Universidad Diego Portales (1986-1989), and has also taught several courses at the Judiciary Academy.

He has been a peer reviewer in the National Commission of University Accreditation, having been part of the appraisal commissions of different universities and law schools.

He was the founder and director of the Department of Practical Law at the Universidad de Chile (1989-1998) and Head of the Law School of the same university (1998-2001).

He was a member of the High Council of the Alberto Hurtado University (from its creation until 2010), of which he was Secretary General until July 2007 and, subsequently, a member of the Board of Directors until 2014.

He has published a number of essays, studies and articles in legal journals, specially in the area of procedural law, as well as several columns in the media.

He has served as lawyer and counselor of the State Defense Council (1972-1996), acting as Deputy Chairman of said body (1990-1996); counselor of the Judicial Assistance Corporation; editor of the Law and Jurisprudence Magazine (1978-1984); attorney-at-law with adjudicatory powers at the Court of Appeals of Santiago (1990); member of the Enlarged Higher Council of the Mensaje Magazine (1996-2005); and has been member of the General Council of the Bar Association (2013-2015).

He was the Chairman of Chile Transparente, Chilean Chapter of Transparency International (2005-2008), and member of the Probity Commission formed by former President Bachelet (2007), where he was responsible for drafting the proposals for the Freedom of Information Act currently in force.

He was a founding partner of Harasic & López until 2016, and of Harasic, Medina, Dal Pozzo & López, which later became Harasic, Medina & Dal Pozzo, between 2017 and 2021.

He is an arbitrator of the Arbitration Center of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CAM).

In 2019, he was elected by the General Council of the Chilean Bar Association A.G. as member of the Ethics Tribunal of the Bar Association, for the period 2019 – 2023.

He is a member of the Chilean Bar Association (since 1972); of the Institute of Criminal Sciences; of the Chilean Institute of Procedural Law; of the International Association of Criminal Law; of the Interamerican Federation of Lawyers, Chilean Section; of the Legal Defense Office of the University of Chile, and of Libertades Públicas.
